Introduction

The purpose of this document is to show the end user a default game folder to compare to there own game folders. If for an example an add-on or mod was used and you want to know what the default installation looks like so you can restore the game to fully functional with the least amount of files.

The information on this page was collected directly from the Registered CD's. The charts below briefly informs you about each file and folder. The file size, date and time stamps are present on most. This document includes the Tools, Goodie folders or BUILD Editor Files as well.

Tools Required Components

For the Duke3D tools to operate correctly the following files are required to be present:

Note: If you copy the BUILD folder from your CD;
You will find that all files are Marked READ-ONLY. This prevents the Tools from operating correctly. Highlight all the files and in properties uncheck the READ-ONLY Box.

Editart requires theses files in the Duke1.3D directory to work normally

  • Lookup.dat

  • Art tiles 0-14

Build requires these files to work normally:

Clean Up

A few files in the Duke3D folder that are no longer needed and can be safely deleted are;

  • Delete the  \TEN  folder and the  TENGAME.INI file, you won't need them. The TEN network is no longer available.
     
  • You will also have a lonely batch file in your C:\  root directory. The file name is   Duke3d.bat 
    This file is used in Launching Duke.exe directly from DOS.

    DUKE3D

    This file may be deleted if you don't require its use, usually if your running windows.

Other Files

You MAY have these in the Duke directory as well, don't delete them:

  • MSDOS Duke3d = Your Win95 shortcut to Duke
  • MSDOS Setup = Your Win95 shortcut to Setup
  • Capfill.txt = Is created every time you make screen captures of the game.
