Most Duke Nukem 3D TC/Episodes are very easy to set up. I just make a new folder for the TC. Place a clean copy of the version of Duke3D the TC calls for then unzip the TC into that folder. Chick on yes if it asks if you want to overwrite any files. Then you follow the instructions in the text file usually included with the TC. Most often this means you click on a .exe or .bat file. I will be listing any general problems I come across on this page soon. If there is a specific problem I had loading a TC I will note it on that TC's page, and how I got around it.

4/13/08 One of the most common problems I have had is when a TC/Episode will not load using the included .bat file. The first thing to do is check the text file if one is included to see if the TC needs a specific port added to the TC's folder. If it does add it and see if the .bat file will now work. If not you can open the .bat file by right clicking on it then click on edit. Most .bat files will have a line like this: duke3d.exe /x000.con /g000.grp (where 000 is the name of the main .con file and .grp file for the TC) Some times there is an additional file : /h000.def. This file seems to be the cause of the .bat file not working correctly most of the time. Just delete it. You only need it if your using The High Resolution Pak. 9 times out of 10 the .bat file will now load the game. Now if editing the .bat file still does not get the TC to load there is another thing to try. You can extract all the files from the .grp file using a program called XGroup/XExtract found on the home page. Its very easy to use and after extracting the files you just move them to your TC folder . You may need to rename the maps to e1l1.map through e1l?.map (whatever the number of the last map in the TC is), then click on the duke3d.exe and go to episode 1. This is not a perfect way to get the TC to run but as a last resort it usually works. I'm still learning as I go along so if I find a better way I will post it here.
